Today's post will feature the infamous Maybelline Color Tattoos. These are a much raved about and sought after drugstore makeup item. I've tried all of the shades from the original release, and one from secondary release (Barely Branded above). I'm a huge fan of cream eyeshadows and I'm quite picky with formulas. For the price, these are a good bang for your buck...and you can usually find Maybelline buy one get one half off somewhere!
I'll be the first to admit that I have a love/hate relationship with these. The formula is not consistent from shade to shade. It's actually really puzzling to me how much they vary. Many of the shades I found hard to work with and almost too thick to even blend out, and then some of them were nice and creamy. The two mentioned in this post are too from the latter category.
(L to R - Barely Branded & Bad to the Bronze)
Bad to the Bronze...probably the most talked about and raved about shade from this line. The color is perfect as a stand alone all over lid color, outer V shade or base. It's so versatile. It's thicker than most cream eyeshadows I use, but it's still creamy enough for me. I typically use my finger to apply this, but you can use a flat shader brush too Shade wise, it's a hybrid of bronze and taupe...it's too warm to be a true taupe, but if you are a taupe fan like myself, this is a must pick up. It's a really no fuss eyeshadow that would be a great addition to any makeup user's collection. I know my sister wears this almost every single day as an all over eyeshadow color!
Barely Branded...is from the "Metal" Collection line. I found it on a display at Ulta, so I'm not positive if it's limited edition or not. I could have sworn I read on another blog that this shade is here to stay (I hope so!). This is a shade I find myself reaching for pretty often. I didn't think it would be something special until I started using it as a base under my eyeshadow. It's the perfect compliment for any look...especially if you wear a lot of neutral shades. It works so well because it's not too white and not pink/yellow either. The texture is creamy and a bit more so than Bad to the Bronze. This would be great for someone who uses eyeshadow base or just wants a wash of color on their lids...it's a great throw on and go shade for sure!
(T to B - Bad to the Bronze & Barely Branded)
I'd really recommend checking out these two shades next time you are makeup shopping. They are nice colors to have in your makeup stash that you can wear with any look! Also, for the price point $4.99-7.99 (depending where you buy), it's a steal. Remember to wait for the sales as you can usually save a few bucks too. Also, I can't think of another drugstore brand that makes a quality cream eyeshadow, so Maybelline has really got the market covered with that!
Thanks for reading,
Carly
eee Pretty! I love the consistency of the colour tattoos!
ReplyDeleteI got one of these colors for Halloween and found myself using it way more then I thought! They are pretty good for what they are, and I always love a good Drugstore BOGO event!
ReplyDeleteI love them but I do have to agree with you! Sometimes you really have to work your finger in to get the product, after that it's a a bit easier to work with.
ReplyDeleteGreat overview! You just brought something to my attention that is not only true but didn't hit me till you mentioned it! The consistency does vary from each other! I pretty much own ALL of them with the exception of the orange one and one from the LE collection, Just like you I LOVE them and working with them for the price is well worth it! Thanks! Leslie
ReplyDeleteI have BB and it is my go to primer for everyday makeup looks, it works so well with browns and pinks! Love! And I've heard nothing but great things about Bad to the Bronze so I need to go pick that up as well!
ReplyDeletenice review! I have a couple mac paint pots that I use all the time, and I've heard so much about Bad to the Bronze. I just don't know how much I'll actually use it!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE these two shades! Great post :)

I love these! So glad since I cannot afford the Mac ones:) I agree - the constitency (sp?) varies with each one- bold gold for me is tricky to work with
